At Abbey Building, we’re proud to sponsor and support grassroots sport in our community. This season, our partnership with St Albans City Youth FC has given us the chance to follow two brilliant teams – the U12 Boys West and the U10 Central Boys – as they’ve worked hard, grown together, and achieved some fantastic results on the pitch.

U12 Boys West – A Season of Progress and Team Spirit

Now in their fifth season, the U12 Boys West took on their first taste of Sunday football in the West Herts Youth League. Entering the division was a bit of a lucky dip in terms of standard – but results showed they were more than capable of playing at a higher level, which will no doubt come next year.

What’s been most impressive is the visible improvement in every single player – not just in individual skills, but in their appreciation of teamwork and team spirit. Training has been competitive, fun, and full of energy, with the boys embracing the City Youth Way: being brave on the ball and unafraid to make mistakes.

The team’s efforts paid off with a second-place finish in their division and a place in the Junior League Cup Final, where they narrowly missed out to a strong Kings Langley side from the division above.

We join the coaches in congratulating all the players for their dedication and success, and in thanking the parents for their incredible support throughout the season.

U10 Central Boys – Building Skills, Friendships, and Fun

The U10 Central Boys brought another exciting season of thrills and spills to the pitch. This year saw more different goal scorers than ever before, with every player having the chance to try their skills in multiple positions.

Attendance has been excellent – with six boys now passing the 50-club-appearance milestone – and the team’s positivity and determination have shone through in every game. The friendships within the squad have grown stronger, and the group continues to live by their values of respect, support, and teamwork.

The boys came tantalisingly close to their first cup final, missing out only in the final game of the group stage. It was a fantastic adventure and a big motivator to go one better next season.
